Weeks 5 & 6

Our Saturday family outing--checking out the changes from week 6! We wouldn't let the kids out because it was so muddy (they still managed to get muddy and the van dirty)

Reed checking out the view from the garage :)

Because of the FRIGID and unbearable weather, week 5 was a bust. No activity on the house. And I spent the week continuing to get our house ready to list. I swear--we must be pigs. I don't know anybody else who takes a month to get their house ready to list. Projects like this is where my crazy chaotic perfectionist comes out to play. I want it PERFECT, but I get so distracted by daily life and don't make the progess I would like.

But, finally we got a little break in the cold and we got our basement floor poured! Yipee, every little step makes it seem more real.

Then, the lot was regraded and all the gaps near the foundation filled in. It made such a difference. I was able to stand on the front porch and get a feel for the view. It was nice to see that we like the lot placement. It's so hard to just imagine elevations and views when you are standing in the middle of the field.

And to top it off--we now have our very own (for a while) port-a-potty!

This week I also started my meeting and appointments for selecting all sorts of things.

Our front door--except it will be black.

Fireplace, 1st appliance meeting, cabinets, siding and stone.

If you care to give an opinion, right now I'm trying to decide between double ovens and a normal microwave, or a convection oven and an advantium oven. And between roughly these refrigerators--they may not be the exact models, but close. The side by side is the clean touch steel.

Hi
Okay you seriously need to call me. I've been going the rounds with the whole microwave double oven thing..
I think if I could do it as I wanted I would get...
gas stove (you know stove top/oven) all in one, a nice one, like the kitchenaid, or new GE's.
Then get a wall oven with a built in microwave above it also built in.
My SIL has the mirco/combo oven thing and never uses it.. I think if you are picky about how your food is cooked those advantium oven type things won't make you happy.
I have double ovens and HONESTLY use both ALOT! You will want two.

okay me again :-)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your door.. its beautiful.
Also- get clean touch stainless steel, i've had one fridge clean touch and one regular stainless and it makes a huge difference.
my mom has the "armoire" type fridge and likes it becuase she can put big platters in it-

I love your door!!! I agree with Melissa, get the clean touch stainless steel. How fun for you--it's stressful, but I always thought, "this might be the only time I get to do this." I think it's awesome that you are documenting it. btw: Sorry Sam was mean to Avery and Easton yesterday at church--he's having a hard time lately, (no clue why) but was disciplined!

If you can fit an Advantium into the budget you will never, ever regret it. I had one in MS and it was the best thing EVER. Truly. I'd trade it for any any fancy oven anywhere because it will do everything...and within 4 minutes. Good luck!

Okay, great front door. I like the first fridge for layout. Can you not get it in the clean touch stainless steel? I have no idea what that other kind of oven is so sorry no help. I am so glad things are coming along.

Oh, the first fridge (with bottom freezer) is my dream! Love the idea of two wall ovens too...you bake enough that you'll use them both, I imagine! well, that's my 2 cents...fun to let us in on your plans. Good Luck!

I agree with everyone else. I love your door and I like the first fridge with the freezer on the bottom. It fits a lot more. Especially for parties were you need to store lots of stuff. If I were you I would also go with the two ovens. From one cook to another, I think that you will get more use out them. At least that is what I would choose. It looks like things are moving along. Thanks for keeping us all posted. I love seeing the progress of the house. Love you!!!

Hey, I know I already gave you my two bits when you were asking if we liked our advantium. I do love it, but (and much to Keith's dismay I'm sure) I would opt for two ovens. And I already told you how impossible it has been for me to keep our stainless fridge looking clean. Clean steal would be my choice on our next go around. Anyway, good luck.

How exciting for you. Love the front door. I am trying to decide what color to paint our front door. Pat wants it white but I am thinking I might want something else.

Heather I love your door so much... I even showed it to Jon!! I can already tell your house is going to be to die for!! I am sad I won't be able to see it in person but I am sure you will post a ton of pictures, well hopefully!

I am so out of the relm of appliances- you pick what's best and let me know so 50 years down the road when we are ready I will pick what you did- expcept by then you will have probably picked another set. So just keep me posted. I'll take yours- and your BEAUTIFUL door!

Okay. I am definitely NOT one to give advice on appliances, but I am so excited that now I'll have a potty to stop at in the area...:) (Kristine)

I like the fridge with the bottom freezer. Having recently NOT picked that, I do regret it, because I find I don't have enough room in my fridge or my freezer when they are side by side (they are cabinet depth, hence not as roomy).

I have two ovens on top of each other with a microwave on top of that in my kitchen, and I LOVE it. I use the two ovens more than I thought I would, and having the microwave above them just looks nice to me.

I don't envy all of your decisions --that was so hard for me. But, you will do well, I am sure. (much better than me, who drove my builder crazy!)

I was going to give my 2-cents about the bottom freezer. Looks like everyone thinks the same way I do. I got the side by side for this house and have regretted it many times--no room.

Sorry I don't have an opinion about the microwave and ovens. Let us know what you pick, and then in the future if it was a good choice.
