April House Progress

Time for more photos of the house progress. April was a long month for the house. All the rain we had hit at a horrible time. The beginning of the almost 3 weeks of rain was right as we were ready to get the house "dry"--meaning the exterior on and the roof finished all the way.

While it was raining, it was also time to finish the electrical and plumbing inside. They were able to work on this because most of the roof was finished--just not some edges around where the roof had to be finished after the exterior was on--like the porch roof had to wait until the stone was on, etc. The kids love to go out to the house while they were doing the plumbing. They loved the red and blue pipe they used--the would play like they were light sabres in the basement. (If you look closely you can tell everybody is decked out for the KU vs. NC game)

The pipes for my kitchen island!

Powder Room plumbing--garage in the background.
Tub/shower for Zoe and Easton's bathroom.

Framing of the 1/2 walls in the greatroom--these will be little bookshelves with columns above to the ceiling.

Finally, we got a few days in a row where there was not supposed to be any rain, and the siding crew was able to start. This was the first thing that went in that was a color I picked--I was so nervous to see if I was going to like it. Then it was the wait to see how it looked next to the stone. It's one thing to pick from a 6 inch piece of next to a 12x24 sample of stone--and a whole other thing to see it live on the whole house. Fortunately, I ended up loving both--it was just what I was going for.

The back of the house where they got it ready for the deck. This had to be done before the siding.

Piles of the stone waiting to be put up.

I was so excited when they started putting the stone up. When we went to pick the stone for the house, we had something totally different in mind. Our builder ended up talking us into this line of stone because it's real stone and not a veneer (sp?). I love it!

During this time I was going out almost every day. I was so anxious for them to finish the outside because they were finished with everything inside and couldn't move along cause the next was drywall and the roof had to be 100% finished to do that. I'm so glad my builder wasn't cutting corners to get done, but it was about this time when I started to panic over the timing.

The exterior finally was finished the week of the 21st of April. And while I was away in Lincoln for AMI they started the drywall-I walked up to the house and the garage was all drywalled and I was so shocked. Overall in April, the whole look of the house changed a ton, but we didn't make as much progress and we needed to. The last of my deadlines for interior selections were all in April--I picked the garage doors (just ordinary doors cause they won't show from the street at all), door hardware (again, just ordinary brushed nickel), faucets (on other post), tubs and showers (white), paint (we are going to use the new Benjamin Moore Aura paints and I'm so excited with the color palatte), flooring ( I LOVE my floors!) and lights. Truthfully, lights and a few other things have spilled over into May for me to actually finish, but I worked on all of this.
The nice thing during this time was that I only showed our other house just a few times. We didn't change the status on the MLS, but we had to notate that we had a pending contract so people just were not that interested. We got the call while we were in Lincoln that the buyers close on their house had gone off without a hitch. More and more blessings!
