Our Christmas vacation starts today! Nope, the kids are not out of school (last day is friday). Reed is coming home and doesn't leave again until January 4th. As is totally fitting, his flight is delayed, fortunately only a hour and he will be here by dinner!
His travel is such a big part of our family dynamic and for us, we are as used to it as we can get. But, there is no denying that our home feels different when we are all waiting for him to get home. It is the one Mom card I can play that ALWAYS works--get done before Dad gets home.
It marks the end of what is always a busy time (September till December), but this is the latest December travel yet. And it is the end of a very busy (count your many blessings) travel year. Reed told me today that this is his 120th flight this year--and this number does NOT include any of his international travel (twice to New Zealand and 2 weeks in Australia, and at least once to Europe), and it only includes Continental and Northwest flights (which he usually travels, but he is Platinum Super Elite Diamond (whatever they call it) member everywhere--all the airlines and hotel chains). I couldn't even begin to guess at how many hours upon hours of sitting in airports or on airplanes being delayed, that number would be to depressing to contemplate. I know I would be the very grumpiest person on earth if I did what he did. Every time I travel I get irritated at something--even without the kids. I am so grateful for how hard Reed works at supporting and caring for our family!
No wonder Zoe thinks Daddy works at the "hairport"!

First happy anniversary!!!! Second... I feel a fraction of your pain!! Jon has been in more airports and had more delayed flights/ "we have run out of rental cars even though you booked yours a few weeks ago, sorry" in the last few weeks then he has in his whole life. Yeah for the holidays and Reed not having to travel for a while!!!
congrats! Have so much fun and tell everyone hi!We all miss you. Again today we were getting in the car and Luke asked to come and see you guys! love. love, love,
I'm so glad he'll be staying put for a few days so you all can have a wonderful Christmas together. When you wrote how many flights he has been on you realize how much he travels. That is hard on both of you. Here's to only 99 flights in 2008!
It makes me want to start singing
"I'm so glad when daddy comes home,
glad as I can be, put my arms around his neck and climb up on his knee . . ." Have a great time enjoying some much needed time with Reed!
I am totally with ya sista! I am the "married-single mother" too! Dave came home Friday and said, "I am done traveling for the year." Two weeks off - whoopie!
So does that mean he has a million air miles? I think you should find yourself a vacation with those :)
